The Swamp occurrence is located near the eastern headwaters of a small northeast-flowing tributary of the Quatse River, approximately 3.9 kilometres east of Quatse Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by northwest-trending belts of basaltic volcanics and carbonate sedimentary rocks of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen and Quatsino formations (Vancouver Group) and mafic volcanics and sediments of the Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group (Holberg volcanic unit, Nahwitti River wacke and Parson Bay Formation). These volcanic and sedimentary rocks have been intruded by granodioritic rocks of the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.

Locally, hornblende granodiorite and an andesite dike intrude skarn zones formed from limestone at the granodiorite-limestone contact. The skarn is mineralized with grossularite, andradite, calcite, chlorite, quartz and magnetite and contains disseminated to massive pyrite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite with lesser galena and bornite. The skarn is irregular in outline, having a sharp contact with the limestone and a gradual contact with the granodiorite. The skarn zone dips nearly vertical at surface but, as identified by drilling, flattens out at depth to form an L-shape.

In 1983, diamond drilling (DDH83-2) intersected 8.4 metres averaging 1.26 per cent copper, 7.72 per cent zinc, 57.25 grams per tonne silver, 0.28 per cent lead and 0.17 gram per tonne gold, whereas drillholes 83-3 intercepted 2.0 metres yielding 5.07 per cent copper, 0.69 per cent zinc and 90.6 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 11407).

In 1989, a grab sample (CF159) of a partial skarn-dike contact located 30 metres southeast of the Swamp zone assayed 1.06 per cent copper and 53.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 18238).

In 1968, Dawn Minerals soil sampled the area. Also, at this time, Emperor Mines completed an airborne magnetic survey on the area immediately north. In 1969, Yellowknife Bear Mines Ltd. completed a program of soil sampling and a 49.6 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area as the Little Joe claims. In 1971, a program of rock and soil sampling and ground electromagnetic and magnetic surveys were completed on the area as the Reef claims.

In 1980, a program of geological mapping was completed. In 1981 and 1983, Energex Minerals Ltd. completed an airborne electromagnetic survey and eight diamond drill holes, totalling 232.4 metres, on the area as the Cliff claims. During 1987 through 1989, programs of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping, minor trenching and 16.7 line-kilometres of ground magnetic surveys were completed on the area.

In 1991 and 1992, Daiwan Engineering Ltd. completed programs of prospecting, geochemical sampling and ground geophysical surveys the area immediately north as the Marisa 1-4 claims.

In 2016, the area was prospected by Tech-X Resources Ltd.
